Sad.
This book is so sad and I loved it.
Kathy, Tommy and Ruth have a peculiar life. They’re brought up in Hailsham, a really special school.
They don’t know how their life is going to be but, to the reader, something looks wrong.
The kids in Hailsham have a sad destiny but they accept it almost without complaining, which makes everything even worse.
This book talks about controversial topics and it really makes you think.
Sometimes I almost couldn’t bear it, it was just too much.
I know I’ve been quite cryptic but, in my opinion, revealing other parts of the plot would be pointless, finding out by yourself in this case it’s the best option.
I loved the way it’s written as well, I think I’ll buy more novels by Ishiguro.
If you haven’t read this book you may have seen the movie.
I really liked the movie as well but, as it often happens, I preferred the book.

Questo libro è così triste e l’ho amato.
Kathy, Tommy e Ruth hanno una vita molto particolare. Vengono cresciuti ad Hailsham, una scuola molto speciale.
Non sanno cosa la vita gli riserverà ma per il lettore è evidente che ci sia qualcosa di profondamente sbagliato.
I ragazzi ad Hailsham hanno un destino triste ma lo accettano quasi senza lamentarsi, atteggiamento che rende il tutto ancora più difficile da accettare.
Questo libro affronta tematiche particolarmente controverse e fa davvero riflettere.
A volte non riuscivo ad andare avanti con la lettura, era davvero troppo.
So di essere stata un po’ criptica ma, secondo me, rivelare altre parti della trama sarebbe senza senso, in questo caso il *bello* è scoprire le cose da soli, leggendo.
Mi è piaciuto molto anche il modo in cui è scritto, vorrei leggere altro di Ishiguro.
Se non avete letto questo libro potreste aver visto il film, uscito non molto tempo fa.

Ho visto il film ma devo dire che non mi è piaciuta la resa. Sono curiosa di leggere il libro perché il soggetto mi era piaciuto molto.
A me il film non è dispiaciuto ma il libro è sicuramente molto meglio, fammi sapere se lo leggi 🙂

I read this book a few years back around the time "The Island" came out and I found it to be hauntingly sad. I still think about the characters at times. If you liked this book, you should try "The Unit" by Ninni Holmqvist. There are some similar ideals, but it's about how people who are 50 and older and are single are sent to live out the rest of their lives as organ donors until someone in the population finally needs a heart, a set of lungs or some other crucial organ.

Recupero questo post vecchio dato che ho sia letto il libro che visto il film (in originale, al cinema) e mi sono piaciuti entrambi (sarà che poi amo la Mulligan…).
E' una bella mazzata, e peraltro il libro, nella parte finale, è ancora più duro e desolante. Ma sono le storie che preferisco, perché se è vero che come diceva Tolstoj "le famiglie felici si somigliano tutte, le famiglie infelici soneo infelici ciascuna a suo modo", è vero anche se i libri di storie infelici sono tutti diversi e, quindi, più intriganti dato che non sai mai di preciso cosa aspettarti. 😉

Si, il finale del libro è straziante… Quanto è vera quella frase di Tolstoj.
Tra l'altro io sono un po' strana, i libri tristi mi piacciono davvero tanto ma faccio più fatica a vedere un film triste, non so perché.
Mi ero persa tutti questi post libreschi, piacevolissima scoperta :)tra l'altro notavo che abbiamo gusti simili 😉
