The Sunflower Forest by Torey Hayden.
Today’s post is about a book I’ve really liked for a lot of reasons.
I extremely enjoyed the way it’s written and I seriously appreciated the way the author faced delicate historical subjects.

Il libro di cui parliamo oggi mi è piaciuto per diversi motivi.
Ho apprezzato molto il modo in cui è stato scritto e la delicatezza con cui l’autrice ha affrontato temi storici importanti.
This book tells the story of a family located in Kansas in the late 70s.
A family apparently like many others: a father, a mother and two young daughters .The beautiful mother Mara, however, witnessed a terrible past that deeply touched her.
Hungarian-born, Mara was forced to join the number of women used as breeders to the Reich, suitable to give birth to children that met the Aryans standards.
The author recounts the events in question without falling into sentimentality but deeply involving the reader and giving an accurate version of the facts .
Mara can’t live her present, her past keeps storming on her all the time.
The family, however , must keep on going
I loved the father figure, O ‘ Malley , who acts as a referee in this difficult situation .
Lesley and Megan, Mara’s daughters, have to grow up with a mother who’s just partially with them, and addressing situations that no child should face.
Most of all, this book tells a family’s story.
Each household faces negative moments. Seeing, however, the force that you can manage to show even in a very difficult situation gives me hope.
Questo libro racconta la storia di una famiglia che vive in Kansas alla fine degli anni ’70.
Una famiglia apparentemente come tante altre, un padre e una madre e due figlie piccole. La bellissima madre, Mara, è però testimone di un passato terribile che l’ha segnata profondamente.
Di origine ungherese, Mara è stata costretta a far parte del numero di donne usate come riproduttrici per l’apparato nazista, adatta a dar vita a bambini adeguati agli standard ariani.
L’autrice racconta gli eventi in questione senza cadere nel patetismo ma coinvolgendo profondamente il lettore e dando un’idea viva e precisa dei fatti.
Mara non riesce a vivere il suo presente, il passato la tormenta in continuazione.
La famiglia però, deve andare avanti.
Bellissima la figura del padre, O’ Malley, il quale fa da arbitro in questa situazione difficile.
Lesley e Megan, le due figlie di Mara, devono crescere con una madre che c’è solo in parte e affrontando situazioni che nessun bambino dovrebbe affrontare.
Più di tutto questo libro racconta una famiglia.
Ogni nucleo familiare si trova ad affrontare dei momenti negativi, più o meno gravi. Vedere però la forza che si può tirare fuori anche in una situazione davvero difficile, per quanto non sia una storia reale, dà speranza.
Per quanto ami la Hayden, i suoi romanzi non li ho mai potuti soffrire. Hai mai letto qualcosa d'autobiografico suo?
